The Board of Directors of Disability Rights Wisconsin (DRW) will conduct a Listening Session on Friday, March 1, 2013 in West Allis.
DRW is the designated protection and advocacy agency for people with developmental, physical, or sensory disabilities and people with mental illness in Wisconsin. DRW engages in a variety of advocacy strategies, including one-on-one advocacy for individuals and their families; systems advocacy (influencing state and county policy, legislative advocacy and coalition building); class action and impact litigation; and providing training to people with disabilities, their family members, human service professionals, attorneys and others on a variety of disability related topics.
The DRW Board wants to hear from people with disabilities, their families, friends, disability activists, service providers and other concerned individuals about your ideas for the future of disability advocacy and the issues that need to be addressed in the areas of:
- Abuse, neglect and patient rights
- Access to benefits and services
- Deinstitutionalization
- Long-term care
- Community based mental health services
- Special education
- Assistive technology
- Barriers to accessibility
- Discrimination in employment and housing
- Voting rights
- Transportation
WHEN: Friday, March 1, 2013 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
WHERE: Summit Place, 6737 W. Washington St., Summit Place Conference Room #2135, West Allis, WI. (Enter through the main entrance, walk past the elevators and café. Room is on the right side just past the café.)
PARKING: Parking available in both lots at either side of the front doors. If you park in the visitor lot you will need to pull a ticket. Tokens will be available at Listening Session to exit from the visitors parking area.
BUS: Bus #76 stops at 70th & Washington St.; Bus #18 stops on Greenfield Ave. at 68th & 70th streets. From both stops you will have to walk a couple of blocks.
ACESSIBLE TRANSPORTATION: Transit Plus available for individuals who have signed up for the service.
