Collaborative Assessment & Management of Suicidality (CAMS) Training

Friday, October 25, 2013 All Day
The Meadows Conference Center, 850 Kepler Drive, Green Bay, WI

This conference will provide practitioners with a practical approach to enhance their understanding of the "functional" utility of suicidal thoughts and behaviors as a means of guiding effective person-centered care.

"The Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality" (CAMS) is an empirically-supported framework practitioners can use to assess and treat suicidal clients. CAMS is structured around the Suicide Status Form to help practitioners develop a collaborative relationship with their clients in order to identify and focus directly on the factors that maintain suicidal thoughts and behaviors. The spirit of CAMS balances collaborative discussions about suicidal ideation with a proactive, problem solving stance to move clients towards strengthening their reasons for living and attachment to life. This approach is now being used all over the world and is extensively supported by peer-review publications.

Learning Objectives:

1. To improve the understanding of suicide statistics and treatment research data

2. To develop a deeper appreciation for the factors directly associated with suicidal thoughts and behaviors

3. To attain new skills in conducting a person-centered suicide risk assessment with the Suicide Status Form

4. To learn how to utilize the CAMS therapeutic framework to treat suicidal individuals receiving mental health services
